Quick and Easy Summer Daytime Look!

July 13, 2014 in Beauty, Health & Beauty, Kirsty Beauty, Make Up

It’s a sunny(ish) day and you want to go out in your new sundress and look positively radiant.  For some people this is easy- shower, natural hair, no makeup – DONE! For others (i.e moi (Kirsty)) this is not so simple plus some of us (i.e me again) just love makeup!  In these summer months, I like to play around with makeup and colours but here is a quick run-through of my basic summer go-to daytime look.  Say hello to lots of natural, creamy consistencies and bye-bye to cakey powders.  I didn’t plan this but it just so happens that most of the products I’ve chosen are from the drugstore so it’s also a cheap look.  Plus I apply the majority with my fingers so it’s quick and easy to apply and you get more time in the sunshine- Bonus!

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream/Wake Me Up foundation by Rimmel – This choice always depends on how my skin is.  The BB cream is a lot less coverage but I think Maybelline have come up trumps with this one.  It’s really just like a tinted moisturiser.  It evens out my skin-tone without it looking like I’m wearing much and it has SPF 30! For days when more coverage is ESSENTIAL, I go with Wake Me Up as it is still light and gives a lovely glow to the skin.  I apply both with my fingers for an even and natural finish.

Soap and Glory Kick-Ass Concealer  – No matter how clear my skin is, I always need a good concealer due to my looovely skintone (a lovely rainbow of reds and blues and all sorts).  This little pot is truly incredible! It’s creamy at the same time as being heavy duty enough for me.  It is a ‘three-piece camouflage set’ which contains 1. a pinky/peachy undereye concealer/corrector to cover the blue bags (Yay!) 2. a yellowy toned, thicker concealer to cover up spots and redness (Boom!) and 3. A transparent powder to fix it all in place (sorted).  The powder not only sets but isn’t too matte.  I can’t recommend this product highly enough!

Stila Convertible Colour Blush – I love this blush as previously mentioned in my March Favourites.  I just like a cream blush for daytime in the summer as it’s a lot more natural and this one is perfect in both shade and consistency.

Elf Eyebrow Kit – Another staple in my makeup bag that was mentioned in my March Favourites.  The waxy colour topped with the powder leads to natural brows which stay put all day.

Topshop Glow Stick in Play Up -   I’ve had this highlighter for a couple of months and I’ve fallen in love.  As Topshop say “blend the product onto the skin for an effortless glow”. It’s a dream!

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze/Mac Paint Pot in Painterly -  I mix these up depending on what look I’m wanting;  Shimmer = Maybelline   Matte = Mac.  These are quick to use and easy to blend minus a brush.   They also last all day long!

Elf Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder – I use this mainly for the bronzer for this look but the blush is a gorgeous peachy, coral pink which I enjoy wearing too.  This is the only real powder based product I use (apart from the Soap and Glory powder) but you could replace this for a cream/gel bronzer like Chanel or Bourjois.  This is my favourite bronzer right now – it is cheap and has a little shimmer but not too much.  It’s comparable to Nars Laguna I’d say.  It’s really well pigmented but be warned, give the brush a good whack before applying it – a little goes a long way!

summer look

Additional products –

Any mascara you like.  Mine is Maybelline The Falsies.

Some form of liner – I go for Maybelline Gel Liner or Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal as they last all day long.

Something to set it if you fancy – I use Elf Mist and Set Setting spray.  Cheap and cheerful, helps to keep things in place at the same time as adding a bit of dewiness.

Quick, cheap, natural, summery makeup – DONE!

What We’re Loving… June Edition

June 30, 2014 in Health & Beauty, Make Up, What We're Loving

This month’s What We’re Loving post is just a collection of our June favourites.

Apologies for the quality of the pic…camera is still AWOL

1. New Handbag – While I still adore my Kate Benjamin Satchel it can sometimes be just that bit too big. So hubby bought me this new smaller one which is perfect for day-to-day bits and pieces.

2. The Way of Kings – This series was recommended to me by a friend who also loves George R R Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series. I’m still on book one, part one but I am hooked!

3. Breaking Bad – We are quite possibly the last people in the country to get into this, but we are loving it!

Lotion Devine

4. L’ Occitane Lotion Devine

4. L’ Occitane Lotion Devine – I acquired a generous sized sample through the Latest In Beauty British Beauty Blogger Dream Box and I’m in love with this! It makes my skin look so much brighter.

5. Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine – This lip butter is really moisturising. It feels lovely on the lips and is slightly tinted to give a subtle yet beautiful finish.

bourjois rose tweed

6. Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in Rose Tweed

6. Bourjois Rouge Edition Lipstick in Rose Tweed – A moisturising lipstick in a gorgeous shade. It’s nice and light on the lips, no sticky finish and wears well.

And finally…

world cup

Never too old for World Cup sticker collecting!

…it will come as no surprise to you all that I’m loving the World Cup. Collecting the stickers for the album is just an added bonus! ;-)

EcoHydra Hand Sanitiser..Crofter Approved!

May 10, 2014 in Health & Beauty, Pets

Today’s post is slightly different…it features sheep! Sheep? Yes, sheep. Let us explain.

We were recently sent a sample of EcoHydra hand sanitiser to try. It is alcohol free and because it kills 99.9999% of germs it is approved and used by the NHS. Now we’re big fans of hand sanitisers and always have minis to hand whether it be in handbags or the car. The thing is we were sent a large bottle and to be honest we weren’t sure where and when we would use the large bottle. Then a moment of inspiration meant that the EcoHydra bottle winged its way north and west to Dad.

ecohydra bottles

Over the past 6 weeks or so Dad has been busy with lambing up on the croft. In fact he’s had a couple of calves born too. As you’d expect he gets his hands rather dirty, and naturally after handling one new born lamb wants to clean his hands before moving on to another… or eating his sandwiches! So the EcoHydra hand sanitiser found its way into his lambing bag and he’s been getting great use from it!

The sanitiser comes out the bottle as a foam and once you’ve rubbed it in it doesn’t leave any stickiness or dampness. Unlike alcohol based sanitisers the EcoHydra will continue to actively kill germs even when dry.

I can’t imagine that crofters were high up on the list of potential consumers when this product was created, but it’s been really useful for Dad over the past few weeks and even when lambing is over he’ll keep it in his pickup so that it’s close to hand.

We couldn’t resist sharing a couple of cute photos with you before we go. Here’s the new calf, my cousin suggested the name Oreo which I love!

Here’s a smiley wee newborn lamb for you…

..ok he might not really be smiling but he’s still very cute!

Have a great weekend!

EcoHydra is available to purchase, in various sizes, from Boots.

This sample was sent to us free of charge. Obviously this has not influenced our opinion of the product. All our posts are always completely honest.
