Travalo, A Review

January 29, 2015 in Beauty, Gifts

It feels like we’ve only just put Christmas behind us and it’s time to buy more gifts, this time for Valentine’s Day. Truthfully hubby and I don’t buy each other Valentine’s gifts, but that’s just us. Many couples celebrate the day by giving gifts though and so I thought it the perfect time to introduce you to a fab gift, the Travalo.

First things first, Travalo kindly sent over a selection of their products for us to try. As always, we give you our honest opinion and as we really liked these products we wanted to share them with you.

So, what is a Travalo then? Well it’s a refillable perfume spray bottle that’s perfect for popping in your handbag or taking on your travels (it’s approved for airplane hand luggage).

As we were visiting family over the Christmas period, I thought it the perfect time to give it a go. I have to say I was really impressed with it. It’s really easy to fill, the Genie-S pump to fill system makes filling a breeze.

You simply remove the spray nozzle of your chosen fragrance, line up the travalo and pump to fill it up.

I found it to be spillage free, so you aren’t wasting any of your favourite scent.

My travalo proved to be a great success on our Christmas break. It’s the perfect size for my handbag, and is so secure you know it’s not going to leak over the contents of your bag! I also really like the wee window so you can see what’s left inside. Such a simple thing, but it’s really useful.

So would I recommend the travalo? Yes, definitely! Plus they are reasonably priced (RRP £12.49 but shop around, I’ve seen them for as little as £6 online) so you could have a few on the go in different colours with each of your favourite scents.

I think this would make a great gift, for Valentine’s Day or otherwise. You know I’m all about practical gifts and this one really hits the spot!

Thank you to Travalo for sending over some samples for our consideration. As always all opinions expressed are completely honest, and entirely our own.

Quick and Easy Summer Daytime Look!

July 13, 2014 in Beauty, Health & Beauty, Kirsty Beauty, Make Up

It’s a sunny(ish) day and you want to go out in your new sundress and look positively radiant.  For some people this is easy- shower, natural hair, no makeup – DONE! For others (i.e moi (Kirsty)) this is not so simple plus some of us (i.e me again) just love makeup!  In these summer months, I like to play around with makeup and colours but here is a quick run-through of my basic summer go-to daytime look.  Say hello to lots of natural, creamy consistencies and bye-bye to cakey powders.  I didn’t plan this but it just so happens that most of the products I’ve chosen are from the drugstore so it’s also a cheap look.  Plus I apply the majority with my fingers so it’s quick and easy to apply and you get more time in the sunshine- Bonus!

products

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream/Wake Me Up foundation by Rimmel – This choice always depends on how my skin is.  The BB cream is a lot less coverage but I think Maybelline have come up trumps with this one.  It’s really just like a tinted moisturiser.  It evens out my skin-tone without it looking like I’m wearing much and it has SPF 30! For days when more coverage is ESSENTIAL, I go with Wake Me Up as it is still light and gives a lovely glow to the skin.  I apply both with my fingers for an even and natural finish.

concealer

Soap and Glory Kick-Ass Concealer  – No matter how clear my skin is, I always need a good concealer due to my looovely skintone (a lovely rainbow of reds and blues and all sorts).  This little pot is truly incredible! It’s creamy at the same time as being heavy duty enough for me.  It is a ‘three-piece camouflage set’ which contains 1. a pinky/peachy undereye concealer/corrector to cover the blue bags (Yay!) 2. a yellowy toned, thicker concealer to cover up spots and redness (Boom!) and 3. A transparent powder to fix it all in place (sorted).  The powder not only sets but isn’t too matte.  I can’t recommend this product highly enough!

Stila Convertible Colour Blush – I love this blush as previously mentioned in my March Favourites.  I just like a cream blush for daytime in the summer as it’s a lot more natural and this one is perfect in both shade and consistency.

Elf Eyebrow Kit – Another staple in my makeup bag that was mentioned in my March Favourites.  The waxy colour topped with the powder leads to natural brows which stay put all day.

Topshop Glow Stick in Play Up –   I’ve had this highlighter for a couple of months and I’ve fallen in love.  As Topshop say “blend the product onto the skin for an effortless glow”. It’s a dream!

 swatches 2

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze/Mac Paint Pot in Painterly –  I mix these up depending on what look I’m wanting;  Shimmer = Maybelline   Matte = Mac.  These are quick to use and easy to blend minus a brush.   They also last all day long!

Elf Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder – I use this mainly for the bronzer for this look but the blush is a gorgeous peachy, coral pink which I enjoy wearing too.  This is the only real powder based product I use (apart from the Soap and Glory powder) but you could replace this for a cream/gel bronzer like Chanel or Bourjois.  This is my favourite bronzer right now – it is cheap and has a little shimmer but not too much.  It’s comparable to Nars Laguna I’d say.  It’s really well pigmented but be warned, give the brush a good whack before applying it – a little goes a long way!

summer look

Additional products –

Any mascara you like.  Mine is Maybelline The Falsies.

Some form of liner – I go for Maybelline Gel Liner or Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal as they last all day long.

Something to set it if you fancy – I use Elf Mist and Set Setting spray.  Cheap and cheerful, helps to keep things in place at the same time as adding a bit of dewiness.

Quick, cheap, natural, summery makeup – DONE!

The Wet Brush… Worth The Hype?

April 29, 2014 in Beauty, Health & Beauty

Hairbrushes. Not something I (Rhoda) really spend much time thinking about. Any I’ve had over the years have done the job, some better than others admittedly but my hair has always ended up erm.. well.. brushed.

Then a while ago The Wet Brush broke on to the scene and all of a sudden people were raving about this brush. A hairbrush! At first I just ignored it but then more and more bloggers started talking about this brush and how amazing it was so, I have to admit, I was intrigued.

the wet brush 2

Apologies for photo quality, my camera is still AWOL.

I’m sure you’ll have seen posts about The Wet Brush, more than likely you will have one for yourself. In case you aren’t familiar with it though, the Wet Brush describes itself as “The Best Detangling Brush Ever”. It is designed to be used on wet or dry hair. It will detangle the hair without damaging it and, crucially, with ease.

I have thick hair. When I say thick I mean REALLY thick! Every hairdresser I’ve ever been to has commented upon the thickness of my hair. It takes ages to dry, gets really tuggy, it’s just generally thick! As a result of this tugginess I’m not a huge fan of brushing my hair. Obviously I do it but ooft it hurts…and I seem to remove large amounts of hair simultaneously.

So I really had my doubts about this “Best Detangling Brush Ever” and all the hype surrounding it. I WAS WRONG! This brush is amazing! This is coming from someone who has always just seen a brush as a brush. The first time I used it was on wet hair, wet hair that I actually hadn’t brushed before washing which is never a good idea. So armed with my Wet Brush, and quite a large amount of skepticism, I got ready to tackle the thick, wet, knotty mess. I did not feel one tug, no pain, the brush glided through my hair! I was so impressed I showed my husband (who probably spends even less time thinking about hairbrushes than I do) and he was impressed too.

Since then I’ve used this brush every day on wet and dry hair. It detangles my hair so quickly, smoothly and easily it’s astonishing! The magic of this Wet Brush is down to its IntelliFlex bristles. They are flexible on one stroke and firm on the next. This intelligent flexibility means that they eliminate tugging, tearing, pulling and ripping.

I know my Mum will be reading this and wishing that The Wet Brush had been around when my sister and I were young. My hair wasn’t too bad, it was boy-short. Yeup people occasionally frequently always mistook me for a boy. I remember the battles that Mum and Dad had with my sister though. She’d be screaming, the brush would be tangled up in her hair. It was obviously a source of pain for her and stress for everyone around her. How easy those mornings would have been with The Wet Brush.

So, I’m really very impressed with this brush. I’ve been using it for a month and it’s just brilliant. Who knew that brushing your hair could be pain free?!

Worth the hype? Definitely.

Have you tried The Wet Brush? What did you think of it? Is it worth the hype in your opinion?

The Wet Brush is now available to buy in the UK for £11.99 from Sally and Salons nationwide.

We were sent a sample brush free of charge for our consideration. This has not, in any way, affected our opinion of the product or influenced this post. As always, this post is completely honest.
