What We’re Loving: January 2016

January 21, 2016 in What We're Loving

It’s absolutely AGES since we did a What We’re Loving post! So on this dreich January day it seems like the perfect time to catch up and think about the positives, the things we are loving right now.

After finishing listening to season one of the Serial podcast, I decided I wanted more information on the Adnan Syed case. So I binge-listened to the Undisclosed podcast – three lawyers, including Adnan’s friend Rabia, delving deeper into the case and coming up with more (often shocking) evidence. If you listened to Serial season one then I recommend Undisclosed. It’s not as sleek, but it’s fascinating.

We are completely hooked on Community right now. I actually cannot put into words what a brilliant, funny, random, clever, creative series this is. We only have a few episodes left on Netflix, which is just as well as they remove it in February. So if you have Netflix and fancy dipping in, now’s the time to do so!

Obviously, tv watching and podcast listening requires some form of sustenance. My favourite snack lately has been the Nakd Salted Caramel Fruit & Nut Nibbles. I love Nakd bars, in fact we bulk buy them, so naturally I had to try these new wee treats from the brand. They are fab, perfect for a mid afternoon snack.

tea

What to drink with them? Yogi’s Black Chai tea is my beverage of choice right now (aside from my coffee obviously). We brew it, add a splash of almond milk and enjoy. Or if we’re feeling more ‘fancy’ we make vanilla almond milk chai tea latte with it – so, so good!

Excuse the mess... and the Christmas decorations. Old photo, I promise we don't still have Christmas decorations up!

Excuse the mess… and the Christmas decorations – old photo. I promise we don’t still have Christmas decorations up!

And finally, is there anything better than curling up in front of the fire with a good book? We’ve moved house and I am loving having a wee stove to snuggle up by – cuppa and book in hand obviously!

my Foreo Luna Mini

I bought this with Christmas money and it’s fantastic. As regular readers know I struggle for energy and this wee device gives my face a fantastic clean in just 1 minute. I love it.

my window birdfeeder

Lying in bed day after day can get pretty tiresome so hubby set up a wee birdfeeder in our bedroom window and I’m just loving it. It’s attracting lots of beautiful garden birds and warms my heart!

What We’re Loving… Crowdwish

September 20, 2014 in What We're Loving

Well it’s September which means it’s time for our monthly What We’re Loving post. We started this series earlier this year and we’re really enjoying sharing things we love with you every month.

What We're Loving Badge

This month our spotlight is on Crowdwish.

Every day the amazing folk at Crowdwish action a wish, as wished for by you, me, the general public. Basically you go to their website and submit a wish, or more than one. Your wish is added to the wishlist which is visible to the world. Now for the really cool bit, other folk can “me too” your wish and help it move up the list. When your wish reaches the top of the list it will be actioned by Crowdwish!

It all sounds a bit too good to be true doesn’t it? I can assure you though that it REALLY is that good! You see I (Rhoda) made a wish back in April…

My wish

…and last month Crowdwish dropped me an email to let me know that they were working on my wish! That same day Crowdwish told me they’d be sending me my own personalised crutch!! I was honestly blown away, I still am! My crutch arrived last week and I actually cried tears of happiness when I saw it.

crutch collage

Crowdwish had a bird themed crutch for me as I’ve always loved nature.

I can’t believe that these wonderful people made my wish come true! What’s more they didn’t even ask for anything in return AND they do this each and every day!

If you check their blog every evening you will see the wish that they actioned that day. (Here is the post from the day they actioned my wish.) Every evening this website makes me smile. I think of how incredibly excited I was when I got their email and I think about that person whose wish has been granted that day!

As if that wasn’t enough, they also often include the people who have clicked “me too” on the wish, or indeed anyone at all. For example, last month they gave away foldable walking sticks to Fibromyalgia sufferers  (see the post here)! How incredible is that?

I can’t really put in to words how grateful I am to Crowdwish. I look at my new personalised crutch and smile. It’s far more ‘me’, it’s much less depressing than my old generic grey one, and it looks great too!

Crowdwish really did make my dream come true. If you have a wish, for you, for your friend, for anyone or anything, pop over to Crowdwish. Even if you don’t make a wish, this website will make you smile. It’ll make your heart swell and you’ll find yourself popping back every single day to see what wish they have actioned and how they have achieved it!

For more information on Crowdwish visit their website. Their WTF? section will fill in all the gaps in my attempted explanation. Follow them on Twitter and like them on Facebook too so that once a day you’ll get that post or tweet that will remind you of the good in the world!

Thank you

I was not asked to blog about Crowdish. Thank you Crowdwish for fulfilling my wish!

My First Memebox

August 26, 2014 in Health & Beauty, Make Up, Services, What We're Loving

Let me firstly say, I know people have been reviewing these a lot lately, however I purchased this Memebox myself…and have another making its way from Korea as I type. All opinions are completely my own and I just wanted to share this with you.

Ok, now that’s out the way…. welcome to our August edition of What We’re Loving! This month I (Rhoda) am absolutely loving Memebox! Memebox is a Korean beauty box service. It’s not a subscription service as such, they release new boxes frequently and you pop over to their website to order whatever you like the look of.

BOX

I was first introduced to Memebox a wee while ago by Coffee Break With Dani (over on YouTube) who does Memebox unboxings. From the first time I saw her unboxing I wanted to get my hands on one of these boxes, but I wasn’t sure how it would work being shipped over here. I really didn’t want to be slapped with a big customs charge when it arrived. So I patiently held off until I found some other UK bloggers who had ordered Memeboxes with no problems and so I plunged in with my first order.

Having seen various reviews online I decided to opt for the Hair & Body 2 box. The box itself cost $23 (£13.88) and standard shipping is $6.99 (£4.22) although this box had free upgrade to express delivery, and wow was it quick!!!

I used a combination of Meme Points & a coupon code to bring the total price in at $14.99 (£9.04). A MASSIVE bargain! In fact it’s a massive bargain at the standard price, but it’s worth a wee look about for any coupon codes prior to ordering.

I also nabbed one of their secret deals so I was sent a free 45ml DrG Brighening Balm in Super Light which actually retails on the site for $25! Seriously, I cannot believe how much stuff I got for £9!

Ok, I’ll stop rambling. Here’s what came in the box….

inside box

…jam packed full of goodies!! You also get a wee card that tells you what everything is, how to use it and how much it retails for. Don’t lose the card as in some cases it’s the only English instructions.

foot

Kocostar Foot Therapy 40ml ($9) Ok I confess it was this item that really made me choose this box. These are basically a wee pair of socks you put on for about 1.5hours. They have gel inside & feel really tingly on the feet. Rinse off the gel and about 4 days later you’ll notice the skin coming off, yeup coming off, your feet! It should be disgusting, but it’s pretty awesome. My feet are unbelievably soft now and I seriously love this foot wrap! I’d just advise you not to do it if you’re going to be sandals in about 4 days time, not a good look!

shower

Evas Cosmetics Body Net 7Days Project 200ml ($6) Sticking with the body, I’ve been using this shower gel for a while. There were 7 different scents available and I got the Deep Sea Water. It’s nice.

cream

Label Young Shocking Holjjuki 100ml ($21) This stuff scares me. It’s a one-step body slimming cream. You apply it where you want a slimming effect and it, well, slims it. It heats up though so you need to be careful not to use too much. Honestly, I’ve used this once and I was too scared to put much on, so I can’t give you an opinion on this. I need to be brave and give it another go.

nails

Vidanail Lvida Lavender Oil 10ml ($10) I really like this lavender oil. It helps the nails, is easy to apply and looks so cute. Look at the bits of lavender in it!!! >>

nails2

Moving on…

hair

Hello Everybody Spa Vita Berry Shampoo & Treatment 30ml (Full sized product: 220ml ($38)) I LOVE the smell of these! I was going to save them for trips away but the smell was too good, I had to try them. I’ve been using these once a week/10 days to help give my hair a vitamin boost. I don’t think my hair could handle more than that so these should last a wee while.

hair2

Boutique Bebe Hair Salon Argan Oil Essence 60ml ($31) Apart from the bizarrely brilliant foot wraps this is my favourite item in the box. I just apply a little with my fingers and it gives my hair a nice, natural looking shine. It was great on the ends of my hair just before I got it cut, really helped my hair look and feel more presentable!

So that’s the contents of my Hair & Body 2 Box, worth $77, or $81 factoring in the sample sized hair goodies!

I mentioned that I bagged one of their secret deals. This meant I was sent this DrG BB cream for free..

freebie

So all-in-all by applying my memepoints and a discount code, I received $106 (£63.93) worth of products for just $14.99 (£9.04)!!

I’m delighted with this box. I didn’t incur any customs charges which was great. I believe that’s because it cost less than £15? Anyway, I love this box so much that I’ve already ordered my next one. I’m even more excited about it as it’s the Collab With Coffee Break With Dani box!

One final tip… if you see a box you fancy and it’s in stock GO FOR IT! They sell out really, really quickly.

Have you tried Memebox? What’s your favourite product so far?

As mentioned above, I bought this Memebox myself and just wanted to share it with you! All opinions expressed are my own and completely honest. As always there are no affiliate links in this post
