Armchair BEA: An Introduction

Posted May 27, 2015

It’s Armchair BEA time! This is the first year I’ve participated to I’m really excited about the next few days.

Armchair BEA

You may be sitting there wondering what Armchair BEA is, if so here’s a wee explanation. BEA is the Book Expo America. The event is in New York and is a place where book lovers, bloggers, authors and publishers come together to discuss all things bookish.

Now obviously there are a lot of us bloggers that can’t go to New York and so Armchair BEA is a virtual event, meaning anyone anywhere in the world can take part. Pretty cool huh?

For me, even if I didn’t live in Scotland I still wouldn’t be able to attend as I’m housebound due to ill health (generally to be found flailing about in bed, reading). So this is the perfect way for me to join in! Which leads me nicely on to today’s post – an introduction.

1. Why do you love reading and blogging?

For me reading is an escape from reality. I suffer from a chronic illness which means there’s really very little I can physically do. Thankfully my brain has started cooperating enough so that I can read a bit. Blogging is my way of trying to keep my brain active, and a way of communicating with fellow book lovers around the globe.

2. What is one book everyone should read?

To Kill A Mockingbird

I feel like this is a fairly obvious one but I do believe everyone should read To Kill A Mockingbird at some point.

3. What is your favourite genre and why?
I’m quite a mood reader so I tend to roam about from genre to genre. However if I had to pick just one genre to read for the rest of my life I’d choose fantasy.

4. What book are you reading right now?

Right now I’m reading Uprooted by Naomi Novik. I’m really enjoying it!

5. What book are you most looking forward to this summer?

Eek, just one? Honourable mentions to Go Set A Watchman and An Ember In The Ashes (it’s not out in the UK yet!!), but I think I’m most excited for The Hunter’s Kind by Rebecca Levene. It’s the second book in The Hollow Gods series and I loved book one, Smiler’s Fair.

So there we have it, a wee introduction.

If you guys would like to join in make sure you check out the Armchair BEA website. Also check out today’s linky so you can see what other bloggers have posted today!
