Introducing Dippy Egg & A Giveaway

July 21, 2014 in Closed Giveaways, Crafts, Gifts, Supporting Small Businesses

It’s no secret that I love sending cards. I love the idea that a wee envelope in the post can make another person smile, remind them how much they mean to me, or that I’ve been thinking of them. So, obviously, I love buying cards too! Well in fact I love to buy stationery in general. Is there a word for a stationery addict? It feels like there should be but I can’t find one.

Anyway…I love to discover new brands and to find stationery that’s a bit different. So when I happened upon Dippy Egg through I knew I had to place an order.

Ink Drops Box Giveaway

June 3, 2014 in Closed Giveaways, Services, Supporting Small Businesses

Our April What We’re Loving post focused upon subscription boxes. We introduced you to 6 different subscription box services. If you missed the post you can catch up here. One of the companies we told you about was Ink Drops, a stationery subscription service. We are delighted to be able to offer you an Ink Drops giveaway today!

It’s no secret that we are all fans of stationery here at strupag. So it’s really no surprise that Ink Drops stood out to us in our subscription service research. Their monthly ACE box costs £11.95 + P&P. Every month they offer you a sneak peek of your box, which is great if you are impatient. We’ve just had a sneaky look at the June box and it looks fab!

As well as doing their monthly ACE box, they also have a shop where you can order their other boxes for immediate dispatch. I have my eye on their 3-4-5 box – The One With The Moleskin. As the name suggests you get the three items for £5.

I think this is such a gorgeous prize for a stationery fan! I love the look of the thank you letters. I have a bit of a thing for thank you letters. Kirsty is loving the butterfly stickers, she adores butterflies!

Introducing Cath’s Creative Costumes & Giveaway

May 4, 2014 in Closed Giveaways, Crafts, Gifts, Supporting Small Businesses

We love to support small businesses here at Strupag, and to give you the chance to find out about new companies. So today we are very excited to introduce you to Caths Creative Costumes. Cathy Stocker is the lady behind this company and we’ve managed to grab a couple of minutes of her time to ask her a few questions. She’s also giving away a bespoke prize at the end of the interview!

Hi Cathy. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself please?

I am 53 years old and happily married to a wonderful man. I have four grown up sons, two grandsons and a granddaughter. I am a trained nurse.

Have you always had an interest in sewing? When did you start?

I have held a sewing needle since the age of 4 my mother tells me (and everyone else). Apparently I used to sew buttons on everything! From an early age I made clothes for my dolls and costumes for my younger brothers. When I had my own children I made a lot of clothes for them. I also made my own bridesmaid dresses – partly by machine but mostly hand sewn. I have always enjoyed crafts including sewing, knitting, crochet, tapestry and cross-stitch. I am not very good at drawing so express my creativity through fabric!

How did your business come about?

As my boys got older and joined various drama groups I started helping by making costumes. This then expanded into making costumes for local drama groups. After several years of offering my services for free I decided to try and turn my passion for sewing into a small business. Gradually my customer base has increased in size, as has the types of clothing I make. I love a challenge and will try to do most things people ask for, gaining a lot of skills on the way. I was a member of The Sewing Forum and met a lot of like minded people who were willing to share their knowledge and skills between other crafters.

You’ve created a lot of costumes. Which ones are your favourites?

My favourite costume is the black Tudor dress I made for myself, and my Victorian dress with bloomers crinoline and boned corset for my 50th birthday.

Do you sell other items as well as costumes? Are you available for bespoke work such as dressmaking?

I will make most things for customers. I like a challenge. I am enjoying making children’s dresses at the moment. I have had customers send a photo of a costume and ask me to make them for them and they have always been pleased with the end result. I love making bespoke and do make a lot of costumes for international buyers, they just send me their measurements and some pictures.

Do you work from home? What is your workspace like?

I work from home and now have the attic as my sewing studio, although it’s still being fitted out for use. I have several sewing machines and embroidery machines and enjoy making personalised embroidered gifts

Have you any tips for us sewing newbies?

I love to help people who wish to learn to sew or to improve their sewing skills. The advice I usually give to newbies is to take it slow and steady. Sewing is a process so planning is important . There is no right or wrong way, we all find our own way. No mistakes only design features! Never give up, ask for help . Enjoy creating, it shouldn’t be a chore.

Finally, when you’re not busy at your sewing machine what do you like to do?

Sewing is my hobby, my passion and my business but I like to knit and crochet and spend time with my family.

Thank you so much Cathy for taking the time to answer our questions. It’s been great getting to know more about you.

Cathy has very kindly offered Strupag readers the chance to win one of her personalised cushions.

The lucky winner will receive one personalised cushion either embroidered on one side with their choice of names (up to 30 letters) or with an appliqué letter of their choice, picking the fabric from Cathy’s stock fabric. To give you an idea of the kind of beautiful cushions Cathy makes here is some of her work…

I Love Fridays!!

March 21, 2013 in Company Crush, Gifts, Supporting Small Businesses

Fridays…we all love them don’t we? My Friday excitement has escalated in recent weeks though since Maria from introduced me to a gorgeous website – Dots and Spots.

Dots and Spots is the home of the extremely talented Becky who cuts and tears papers to create beautiful collages and in turn cards, wrapping paper, tapes, notebooks, paper bags, mugs…the list goes on.
So why the Friday excitement? Well every Friday Becky runs 50% Friday where she chooses a different selection of products each week to reduce by 50% for 24 hours only!
my first order
I placed my first order a couple of weeks ago and I am hugely impressed and massively in love with the products. What’s more if you spend over £20 you get FREE delivery. I ordered on the Friday and the free delivery parcel arrived on the Wednesday, I was really pleased with that!
I’ve since introduced Mum to Dots and Spots and she’s now had her first order too and thrilled with it!
Of course you don’t have to wait until 50% Friday to order but it’s always exciting to find out what treats Becky has in store for us.
I am reliably informed that tomorrow is for camper van fans!
So there you go, that’s why I’m even more in love with Fridays these days! Don’t tell hubby though or he might hide my purse!
I just wanted to share this gorgeous company with you. 😀
